In Haute Parfumerie, the beauty of a fragrance is measured, amongst other things, by the emotion it evokes over time.
This depends on the precision of its composition, its balance, and the way in which each note complements the next, without ever leaving a void.
The Olfactory Pyramid
To describe the composition of a fragrance, raw materials are divided into three categories:
Top notes are the first to reveal themselves when the fragrance is sprayed.
Often vibrant, they
may evoke citrus or certain aromatic herbs.
Heart notes are more persistent and unfold over the following hours, often around flowers, fruits or spices.
Finally, base notes settle on the skin.
These are the ones you can still smell on
clothes the next day.
Woods, resins, balms, and musks bring greater
depth and lasting power.
